Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit met Thursday with Secretary-General of the United Nations Antonio Guterres and exchanged views on how to develop the relations between both entities in addition, they discussed international issues of priority especially the latest developments in the region.
Arab League Secretary-General Spokesman Commissioner Minister Mahmoud Afifi, said that Aboul Gheit touched on the latest developments and importance of the Palestinian cause to the Arab nation, and the need to reach to final and fair settlement for a an independent Palestine with Jerusalem as its capital. He added that reaching a settlement will solve many of the other issues that are related to peace and international security, calling on the global community to take responsibility in stopping they deterioration of the Palestinian issue and the suffering that the Palestinians face.
Afifi added that the "two-state solution" remains the only way forward to achieve final and fair settlement for the Palestinian issue highlighting the importance of working on implementing the results of the Paris conference that took place earlier this year.
They also discussed the Syrian conflicts in regards to the Astana talks and the work of United Nations Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura and the meeting scheduled to be held in Geneva 23rd of February, hoping to reach an agreement that would satisfy all parties.
The meeting also touched on the current situation in Libya and ways to work together through Troika which is made of both entities in addition to the African Union, and also through the United Nations Special Envoy for Libya to reach a final agreement that prioritizes Libya's unity.
They also discussed the situation in Yemen and they importance of catalyzing the global efforts to achieve a peaceful settlement that would achieve safety and stability all over Yemen.
