The Arab League strongly condemned mounting violence being perpetrated against the minority Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar, which caused the death and displacement of a large number of people.
The Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul-Gheit called upon the authorities in Myanmar to assume their responsibility and put an end to escalating violations against Muslims as soon as possible.
In a press statement issued by the Arab League spokesman Mahmoud Afifi, Aboul-Gheit urged Myanmar to investigate the violations, hold the perpetrators accountable, improve the plight of Rohingya Muslims and address their decades-long problems.
The statement cited the reports of the United Nations and international independent commissions, which sparked concerns and outrage among the Arab and Muslim people.
