The European External Action Service (EEAS), or the European Union (EU)'s foreign policy arm, on Sunday expressed condolences over a deadly suicide attack taking place at the political camp of the home minister of Pakistan's east Punjab province.
At least 15 people were killed, including Punjab province home minister Shuja Khanzada, and over 10 others injured, in the attack that occurred earlier on Sunday.
"We express our condolences to the family and friends of Khanzada and others who lost their lives in the attack as well as to the Provincial and Federal Government. We also wish a fast recovery to all those injured," said a statement by the EEAS spokesperson.
The statement also noted that the EU continues will support Pakistan's efforts to fight terrorism, including by effective enforcement of its ban on terrorist organizations and hatred speech.
The banned group Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ) has claimed responsibility for the suicide attack as revenge, according to media reports. The group said that the attack was in revenge for the killing of their chief Malik Ishaq in a police encounter on July 29, 2015.
