A crew of Sharjah Municipality and construction workers working on a new mall in Muweilah set a new world record for the largest continuous concrete pouring.
The concrete pouring took 62 hours.
A total of 20.246m³ (cubic metres) of concrete mix was used during the pouring stretching over four days as part of laying the foundation for the new Safari Mall in Muweilah area in Sharjah.
Around 622 people took part in the incredible engineering feat of 62 hours, that began at 2pm on April 13, with 4,600 tonnes rebar rods used and 140 individual trucks delivering the concrete. Twelve separate pump feeding hoses were used to fill the site with 20.246m³ concrete. The work ended at 4am
The final building of the mall will have a basement, a ground floor and two floors.
“Everything went about as picture perfectly as they expected,” said a representative of Guinness World Records on the scene. “It was kind of like a ballet of trucks, moving in and out all night, to get this record done,” he added.
The Dh250-million project is being built by Mazaya Consulting Engineers, Oscar Construction Company Limited, Safari trading company, Conmix Limited, in addition to the engineering staff of Sharjah Municipality.
The pouring beats the previous record of 19,793m³ concrete achieved by Gulf Asia Contracting Co LLC (RP Group) for Geepas International Limited (both UAE-based) in Dubai, on September 9-11, 2016. The concrete pouring took 42 hours.
The recent event was held by Sharjah Municipality and the announcement was made by a Guinness World Records representative who handed Thabit Al Turaifi, director-general of Sharjah Municipality, the Guinness certificate on Thursday morning.
The ceremony was attended by Khalifa Bin Hada Al Suwaidi, director of Engineering Department at Sharjah Municipality, and representatives of the partners and companies that took place in creating this record.
Al Turaifi said that he was proud and happy that this achievement had placed Sharjah on the world map. “This landmark is a gift to His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council member and Ruler of Sharjah,” he said.
Al Suwaidi said, “We are delighted at the new achievement and we thank all those who took part in it.”
