Belgrade - Arab Today

Aleksandar Vucic, incumbent prime minister of Serbia, won 59.89 percent of votes at Serbian presidential elections, which will secure him the position of the head of state, according to the first official preliminary results of Republic Electoral Commission (RIK) published on Sunday evening.

The preliminary results are based on 16.84 percent of counted votes, according to RIK, which also stated the turnout of the elections was at around 51 percent out of Serbia's 6.7 million registered voters.

Preliminary data show that former ombudsman Sasa Jankovic ranked second with 13.12 percent of votes, followed by comedian and political activist Luka Maksimovic with 8.37 percent and former foreign minister Vuk Jeremic 5.21 percent.

RIK is obliged to announce final results of the elections within 96 hours after polls closed, in the case that there are no irregularities or repeated voting.
