The Trump Administration is planning to tell Russian leaders next week that it is preparing to exit the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty, The New York Times reported on Friday.
Citing American officials and foreign diplomats, the newspaper says that "in the coming weeks, Mr. Donald Trump is expected to sign off on the decision."
According to The New York Times, "the national security advisor, John R. Bolton, will warn the Russian President, Vladimir Putin, on a trip to Moscow early next week that the United States will leave the treaty."
Bolton will start his trip on October 20. He will pay visits to Russia, Azerbaijan, Armenia and Georgia. On October 3, US Ambassador to Russia Jon Huntsman told TASS that Bolton will meet with Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolay Patrushev in later October to discuss the situation in Syria and North Korea.
