Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar el Abadi on Monday called on Kurdish Peshmerga forces to perform their duty under the federal leadership as part of the Iraqi armed forces.
Abadi affirmed that Iraqi forces are keen on the safety of citizens in the Kurdistan region and Kirkuk.
In a press statement, Abadi noted that his duty is to work in accordance with the constitution to serve the citizens and to protect the unity of the country, which was at risk of division because of the insistence on holding the referendum organized unilaterally by people in control over the Kurdistan region at a time we are fighting war against Daesh." Iraqi National News Agency reported.
He underlined that Iraqi authorities have done their constitutional duty to extend the federal authority, impose security and protect the national wealth in that city in which peaceful coexistence between all Iraqi factions should be maintained.
He urged all citizens to cooperate with Iraqi heroic armed forces, which are committed to our strict directives to protect civilians and state institutions.
The prime minister pledged to continue to defend the rights, gains and national wealth of Iraqi people and to do the best to make people live in Iraq without discrimination.
