In a phone call, Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Abul Gheit discussed on Monday with Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar el Abadi the latest developments after the Kurdistan independence referendum that was held last week.
During the call, Abadi and Abul Gheit exchanged points of view on the latest developments after the referendum, Spokesman of AL Mahmoud Afifi said.
Abul Gheit asserted the AL's commitment to the resolution of the AL ministerial council issued on September 12 on “supporting Iraqi unity and independence,” Afifi said.
Abul Gheit asserted that the AL is ready to exert every effort to defuse the crisis and find solutions based on Arab-Kurdish fraternity within the framework of the Iraqi constitution and unity, he said.
