In a statement, Al-Azhar affirmed its categorical rejection of this criminal and malicious act on the Muslim faith's most sacred place, endangering the safety and security of pilgrims. It stressed that the perpetrators did not represent Islam or its beliefs.

Al-Azhar emphasised its firm support and standing with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to combat terrorism and extremism.

Al-Azhar praised the readiness of the Saudi security forces, which succeeded in thwarting this criminal attempt.
