Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, announced on Sunday the launch of the World Happiness Council.

The UAE is celebrating the International Day of Happiness on March 20 — a day that is marked by the establishment of the World Happiness Council. by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

Sheikh Mohammed made the announcement on his official Twitter account: “Today we launched the World Happiness Council, headed by Columbia University Professor Jeffrey Sachs, who is joined by 12 other members.”

The Council, he said, will focus on six sectors: health, education, environment, personal happiness, happy cities and community standards for happiness.

“The Council aims to support international goals to standardise happiness as a measure of development, as we are doing in the UAE.”

Journey of Happiness
Sheikh Mohammed on Saturday had attended the ‘Journey of Happiness‘ event on the Dubai Water Canal, according to Emirates news agency, WAM.

The event was organized by the National Program for Happiness and Positivity under the supervision of the Minister of State for Happiness to mark the International Day of Happiness Day.

The event featured educational and art activities that saw children, along with their families from various nationalities and cultural backgrounds, taking part.

Shaikh Mohammad said: “I am happy to see these children along with their families and community members from all ages and different cultures interacting with the event and enjoying it, with smiles on their faces. These are very interesting human moments amid those people looking for happiness, joy and living and social stability.”

Shaikh Mohammad expressed his delight over the diversity of people attending the event, which is held for the first time in the UAE and the region.

“Happiness is a human value and the UAE leadership is working to generalise this value and entrench it as lifestyle for all members of the Emirati society,” the Vice President said.

Amal Al Qubaisi, Speaker of FNC, said: “The concept of happiness is manifested in the vision of President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan who gives citizens’ happiness top priority and considers it a sustainable goal.”

She said the UAE’s wise leadership has never spared effort to promote happiness and establish its foundations to ensure the happiness and welfare of its people who became the happiness in the world.
