ERC continues infrastructure, health, energy projects in Yemen
Abu Dhabi - Arab Today

To mark the new academic year, the Emirates Red Crescent, ERC, has launched six new schools in several Yemeni governorates and provided school supplies in the country’s liberated areas.

The efforts of the Emirates Red Crescent, ERC, in Yemen during September reflected the UAE’s desire to enable the Yemeni people to build a promising future.

The ERC is also continuing its overall relief campaigns while launching new infrastructure, health and energy projects, as part of its efforts to repair the damage caused by the supporters of the Houthis-Saleh militias.

Fahad Abdulrahman bin Sultan, Deputy Secretary-General of the International Aid Sector at the ERC, said that under the directives of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Ruler's Representative in Al Dhafra Region and Chairman of the ERC, the authority has launched many reconstruction projects and organised academic and development projects in several liberated governorates, as well as social, economic and commercial projects that have financially benefitted families of martyrs and people with special needs.

He also highlighted the ERC’s two-stage rehabilitation project for schools and associations for people with special needs. The first stage of the project involved the maintenance of schools and the provision of furniture and school equipment, while the second stage focused on their reconstruction and restoration while further equipping them with school equipment and furniture, he added.

The ERC also relaunched several associations for people with special needs and equipped them with furniture and other supplies.

Fahad bin Sultan explained that the authority is working on restoring the Corniche of Koud Nimr area in Aden, by rebuilding its pavements and landscaping its gardens with new trees, as well as creating shaded areas in public parks and walking paths.

The authority is also conducting projects on electricity and road networks and maintaining universities, institutes, public libraries and student housing, as well as constructing new housing in Taiz Governorate.

It is also helping to construct sea barriers, fishing ports and new towns, as well as building houses, schools, health centres and mosques on Socotra Island.

The UAE’s relief plan for Yemen and its people is in line with two parallel and inseparable lines while its armed forces are involved through the Arab coalition.

Coinciding with the start of the new school year, the ERC team in Yemen launched the "School Bag Distribution Project" for families in Shabwa and Hadramaut governorates, while opening four schools in the Mifah, Shabwa, after their maintenance and restoration.
