The Emirates Red Crescent, ERC, has inaugurated the first free surgical facility in Ataq District in the capital of the Shabwa Governorate, as part of the UAE's aid programmes in Yemen.
Mohammed Saif Al Muhairi, ERC representative Shabwa, said the facility seeks to assist patients in need of medical aid to receive tonsillectomy operations free of charge. He highlighted the considerable attention given by the ERC to provide humanitarian relief services, including health treatments.
Governorate officials underscored the importance of the medical camp, as it serves the low-income segment of the community.
The surgical camp, organised by the ERC, is considered the first in the Shabwa governorate. It received a large number of people on the first day, as 80 patients were examined and ten operations were performed.
The officials expressed their appreciation to the UAE and its humanitarian arm in Yemen, the ERC, for its efforts aimed at supporting the health sector in Shabwa and the liberated governorates. So far, the Shabwa governorate has received 108 tonnes of various medicinal supplies to provide for the medical needs of 17 districts, as well as to maintain and restore the Ataq Central Hospital.
