The Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority, SEWA, inaugurated the first electric vehicle charging station, backed by solar panels that operate a photovoltaic system, in line with its goal of promoting sustainable development and conserving natural resources.
The station was inaugurated by Dr. Eng. Rashid Al Leem, Chairman of SEWA, Eng. Khalid Mohammed Al Ali, Secretary-General of the Sharjah Urban Planning Council, a number of directors and heads of departments.
Dr. Al Leem said that the Authority seeks to deploy charging stations for electric vehicles to reduce carbon emissions and pollution.
He added that the establishment of such a station comes in line with the directives of H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohamed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, to adopt the most sustainable methods in Sharjah, which support its position as an environment-friendly emirate.
