Prince Abdullah bin Faisal bin Turki, Saudi ambassador to the United States, on Monday took part in the ceremony naming Edward Seto as chairman of the King Fahd Chair in Research of Cancer Organisms Science at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at George Washington University.
Seto has been the associate director for basic sciences at George Washington University Cancer Center,
Delivering a speech at the ceremony, the ambassador expressed pride in taking part in the event “with a remarkable group of Washington University staff.”
In a statement to the Saudi Press Agency, the ambassador said that “this occasion is very important for science and cancer research, and it is important to support cancer research in the Kingdom and the world as a whole.” He emphasized King Fahd invested in science, contributed to the science and medical fields and expressed satisfaction at the promising future of science in the Kingdom with the strong support of King Salman bin Abdul Aziz and his crown prince who are devoting much attention and many resources to the development of sciences, even allocating a main share for the purpose in the recently announced budget.
Turki pointed out that science and education are a major priority in the Kingdom’s 2030 Vision and that the government allots an important part of the budget to Saudi students who study abroad.
In his statement to the Saudi Press Agency, the new chair, Seto, said that his position allows him to conduct new scientific research in the fight against cancer by looking in new areas that could help cancer patients.
