The Mother of the Nation Women's Jiu-Jitsu Championship for 2017-2018 will kick off on Friday at the IPIC Arena in Zayed Sports City Abu Dhabi, under the patronage of H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union, GWU, Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation, FDF, and President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood.
The first round of the championship for this season will see a significant increase in the number of athletes taking part compared to the previous season. This reflects the growing presence of Emirati women in sports and meets the goals of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation, UAEJJF, for this season in particular, which is dubbed, "Year of Woman".
The championship will witness strong competition amongst its participants this year, particularly due to the presence of several Jiu-Jitsu champions who competed against athletes from all over the world during the international championships in Vietnam and Turkmenistan. This will help the athletes improve their performances and allow them to apply the expertise they gained at these international sporting events.
The Mother of the Nation Championship consists of three rounds as part of the annual UAEJJF 2017-2018 season. The second and third rounds are scheduled for 3rd November, 2017 and 17th March, 2018, respectively.
The Mother of the Nation Women's Jiu-Jitsu Championship is organised specifically for women-only Emirati athletes, and will be played out in the presence of women spectators only. The referees are also women, as are the medical and technical staff.
