Qatar's National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) signed Monday a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Arab Parliament to enhance cooperation and coordination in fields of joint interest.
The signing took place at the opening session of the International Conference on Human Rights Approach to Conflict Situations in the Arab Region, which kicked off in Doha today.
President of NHRC Dr. Ali bin Sumaikh Al Marri signed the MoU along with Deputy Speaker of the Arab Parliament Adel Abdulrahman Mohammed Ahmed Al Assoumi Speaking to Journalists, Dr. Al Marri said that the MoU reflects the commitment by both parties to enhance their cooperation in the field of human rights, by exchanging expertise and capability building in the field.
Al Marri said that the two-day conference will focus on strategies that governments must adopt to guarantee human rights. It will also discuss means to avoid and to deal with conflicts through the promotion of human rights.
For his part, Al Asoomi said that signing the MoU reflects the two parties' commitment to human rights. He also expressed his hope that the agreement will lead to an acceleration in human rights promotion efforts in the region
