The Tunisian presidency on Sunday said relations with Egypt has grew in 2015.

In a report issued on the occasion of Tunisian President Beji Essebsi's current visit to Cairo, the presidency said that Essebsi, elected in December 2014, met with his Egyptian counterpart Abdel Fattah El Sisi twice before; during the African Union summit in Addis Ababa in January 2015 and the Arab Summit in Sharm El Shiekh in March 2015.

Essebsi also delegated a special envoy to Egypt in two occasions, including the opening ceremony of the new Suez Canal, the report said.

The Egyptian-Tunisian Joint Higher Committee, that has not convened since 2010, held a meeting in Tunis in September and 16 legal documents were signed in various fields, the report added.

Trade between the two countries has witnessed a relative improvement compared to previous years, as the volume of trade reached about 193,2 million dinars during the first quarter of 2015, with an increase of 25 percent compared to the same period of 2014.

Essebsi arrived in Cairo on Sunday on a two-day visit to Egypt for talks with President Abdel Fattah El Sisi on a set of Arab and regional issues of common interest.

Talks are expected to cover the situation in Libya, Syria, Yemen as well as efforts exerted to combat terrorism which has become an escalating threat for both countries.

The two leaders will also discuss the outcome of the Joint Higher Committee meeting held in Tunisia in September.

Essebsi will also meet with top Egyptian officials during the visit.
