There has been modest but real progress with the humanitarian situation in Syria, with aid from the United Nations reaching 12 out of 18 besieged regions in the country, UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura has said.
The United Nations and its partners have delivered humanitarian aid to nearly 110,000 civilians in besieged and hard-to-reach areas in Syria in just one week, according to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.
"According to the analysis that’s been done, there has been a modest but real progress regarding the humanitarian situation in Syria," de Mistura told reporters.
According to the United Nations, about 4.6 million of people are in need of unconditional, unimpeded and sustained humanitarian access in Syria.
