The death toll from the tornadoes and storms that swept the US State of Oklahoma last Friday has risen to 18 people, including six children and 12 adults, the Oklahoma chief medical examiner announced.
Officials added five victims on Monday to the confirmed list of dead from the tornadoes and from storms that caused severe flooding.
The fate of five missing people remains uncertain, officials said. Meanwhile, hundreds of people were being evacuated from their homes in Missouri after a levee was breached on Monday night.
Officials in St. Charles County near St. Louis activated warning sirens after the levee broke, a statement from the county said. Forecasters say there could be major flooding on Tuesday. The Mississippi River at St. Louis was 10.1 feet above flood stage Monday night, according to the US Geological Survey website.
Flood warnings and advisories were in effect from counties in northern Illinois down to Louisiana
