A UN soldier from India was killed during clashes between renegade soldiers of the DR Congo and government troops on the border with Uganda, the United Nations said.
"Someone was killed in Bunagana, an Indian (UN peacekeeper) who was killed by shrapnel during the fighting. It wasn`t a direct hit. He died from his wounds," the UN mission in DR Congo spokesman Madnodje Mounoubai told AFP.
The mutinous armed force known as M23 took a key border post with Uganda at Bunagana on Friday, after fighting regular Congolese forces near a national park which is home to one of the biggest populations of mountain gorillas.
The Democratic Republic of Congo`s forces on Thursday launched an offensive to rout the mutineers but the M23 said loyalist forces had been repulsed.
