FIFA banned today Lionel Messi for four matches after the Argentina star allegedly insulted the referee in charge of the match against Chile.Argentina only have five matches left in the qualifiers, and will miss Messi in four of them. The player will also pay a fine of 10,000 Swiss Francs. He will miss the games against Bolivia, Uruguay, Venezuela and Peru. The final match that Argentina will play, which Messi can feature in, will be against Ecuador.
The ban couldn't have come at a worse time for Albiceleste as Nicolas Otamendi, Javier Mascherano, Lucas Biglia and Gonzalo Higuain all picked up yellow cards against Chile and will be suspended for the coming match as well.
