The Australian Sevens team will be boosted by colourful Wallaby outside back Nick Cummins for this year's World Series season up to the Rio Olympics, the Australian Rugby Union said Tuesday.

Cummins, 28, known as the 'Honey Badger', will link up with the squad in March and be available for selection for the final four legs of the 2015-16 Sevens World Series season and the Rio Games.

Winger Cummins has won 15 caps for the Wallabies and has represented the national Sevens side on eight occasions in the World Series.

Alongside current Wallabies Bernard Foley and Nick Phipps, Cummins was also part of the Australian Sevens team which earned a silver medal at the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games.

"I'm keen as mustard to get this opportunity to play Sevens again," Cummins said in his trademark style.

"She's a big year, we all know why. To make the team, you've got to get on the burst and perform -- and that's what I intend on doing."

New Australian Sevens head coach Andy Friend said Cummins would bring a wealth of playing knowledge and experience into the squad.

Rugby returns to the Olympic programme after a 92-year absence in Rio later this year.
