Under the patronage of His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy President of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, Honorary President of Bahrain Mixed Martial Arts Federation, the BMMAF is organising in cooperation with the Khalid bin Hamad Mixed Martial Arts Organisation KHK MMA, the Bahrain Open Mixed Martial Arts and Boxing Championship, which is launching on Friday at the Khalifa Sport City Hall and continuing until Saturday.
Colonel Khalid Abdulaziz Al-Khayat, President of BMMAF, Head of the Championship’s Organising Committee, confirmed that the championship comes within the calendar year which will witness the hosting of three championships. Through it the federation seeks to continue the efforts initiated by His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al-Khalifa to support Bahraini youth practising mixed martial arts, and reflects its development, advancement and sustainability, through the formation of national teams capable of representing the Kingdom of Bahrain in various international forums and championships, and adding more achievements to the Bahraini MMA sport’s record.
"Through its programmes, the federation seeks to implement the vision of His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, which is based on the creation of an ideal environment to encourage and push Bahraini youth to practice the sport of mixed martial arts, in accordance with its legal frameworks and regulations that are compatible with the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation, which contributes to its continuity through the formation of teams capable of achieving more honourable results, and enhancing the position occupied by the Kingdom of Bahrain thanks to the outstanding efforts made by His Highness in this international sport," Al Khayat said.
He added: "The championship is the first of the Federation’s official championships since its formation last June, and aims to give local fighters the opportunity to highlight their energies and combat abilities, which serves to achieve the main objective of choosing distinguished fighters to join the national team in order to prepare for upcoming international participations, particularly that of the national MMA team at the World Amateur Championship hosted by Bahrain in November this year."
He noted that the opportunity is available to all fighters participating in this championship as well as the coming two championships to present the best levels, to get a chance to be part of the team in this international forum. He explained that the Federation has dedicated all its capabilities for the preparation and organisation of the first local championships, seeking to bring it out in an image that serves the aspirations of His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
