Oraib Al Rantawi

During the past few weeks, Khaled Meshaal was exposed to a fierce campaign by the media and the newspapers which belong to two sides: the Resistance and the Moderation. As for the first side (The Resistance), an official Syrian TV, the Iranian newspaper “Kayhan” and the Lebanese newspaper “Al Akhbar” (close to Hezbollah ) launched the most violent campaign against Meshaal and described him with the worst qualities - such as, the hobo resistant, the ungrateful, the Palestinian Walid Jumblatt and many others others. The second side (The Moderation ) represented by the Saudi newspaper “Asharq Alawsat” which published a description which is not less cruel than the mentioned above, described him as moody, a promise-breaker and exploiter of opportunities - it is like a political execution for the Man. The Saudi view was backed by Gulf media means specialised in attacking the Muslim Brotherhood since the outbreak of the Arab Spring. Briefly, 2012 was not the best year in the life of the head of Hamas Political Bureau and in his political experience. The man’s relation with both sides is distorted. I think it is possible to include the man in the list of “The victims of the Syrian crisis.”   The political and intellectual selections of the man are no longer acceptable by the movement itself, particularly by Gaza trend which is consisted of the Alliance of the extremists and those greedy for power and the millionaires of the tunnels who have succeeded in foiling the Doha Agreement and disrupted the reconciliation. However, the man still has regional and international support such as the Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The latter was surprised by Meshaal’s exit from the competition over the presidency of Hamas political bureau and hurried to make him “a major guest” in the latest conference of the Justice and Development Part. On the other hand, the Qatari prince, as reported by some media sources, is searching for a post for Mashaal in the global organisation of the Muslim Brotherhood - if he loses his role in Hamas. As for the ruling Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt, they have passion towards the Gazans, just like the Gazans from Hamas have the same feeling towards the Egyptians. Most predictions confirm that the days of “Abu Walid” in Hamas leadership are few, unless unexpected event happens. Most expectations go to nominate Ismail Haniyeh, or Dr Mussa or Marzouk to succeed Meshaal. Meanwhile a number of leaders in the movement shall be members of the new Political Bureau and the Shura Council after the results of the recent elections. In order not to mingle everything together, the conflict between the hawks and the doves within the current internal situation of Hamas is no longer related to the “resistance” and to the “Israeli - Palestinian conflict” but, rather, linked with the internal national reconciliation and the future of Gaza Strip. The supporters of the reconciliation and ending the division are “the doves of the movement” and the Alliance that thwarted the Doha Agreement is Gaza trend and the hawks. For this reason, we consider the exit of Meshal from the “presidential race” as a painful hit to the Palestinian national reconciliation and I believe that this file will be folded until further notice. What makes things worse is that the problem of Palestinian reconciliation with the Egyptian mediator is still the same. The old alignment to Fatah and the Palestinian Authority and the presidency under the regime of the ousted president Mubarak has taken another form; the ruling Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt is biased to Hamas, to both the movement and the government, which is playing a major role in disrupting the dialogue path and restoring the national unity. -- The views expressed by the author do not necessarily represent or reflect the editorial policy of Arabstoday.
