The Dubai Foundation For Women and Children, DFWAC, has organised a discussion session to review a proposed policy to combat violence against women in Dubai, which included 50 participants from 17 various government and the private sector entities.

Speaking on the occasion, Shaikha Al-Mansouri, Assistant Director-General for Corporate Support at DFWAC, said, "The work on preparing a proposed policy is moving forward according to the latest international practices and takes into account the considerations of the UAE community."

Shaikha Al-Mansouri explained that Dubai is determined to take the lead in the protection of women and their rights, especially with the big developments in the country and the large diversity of cultures in UAE society, which includes more than 200 nationalities.

She added that the foundation began work on the proposed policy last year, as per the directions of the Executive Council of the Emirate of Dubai. She explained that the DFWAC has communicated with various stakeholders within Dubai to conduct interviews with specialists to collect sufficient information to prepare a reliable and accurate database during the preparation of the policy.

Al Mansouri indicated that this session aims to discuss the initial draft of the policy and discuss it with the various stakeholders to get their remarks and suggestions, in order to ensure the compatibility of this policy with various mechanisms, policies and laws in Dubai.
