With early detection being the highest contributor to survival — treatment success rates being as high as 90 per cent among cases detected at an early stage — regular check-ups can greatly increase an individual’s chances of beating the disease. Three examination routes are recommended to make sure early signs are not overlooked. Starting from the age of 20, all women are encouraged to undertake regular clinical breast exams when visiting their gynaecologists. Women aged 40 and over are furthermore advised to undergo an annual mammogram. However, in addition to seeking medical channels, women are also advised to go in for monthly self-examinations.
